How to Find the Right Cartridge for Your Printer Model

Whether you are printing critical business reports or high-resolution family photos, nothing halts productivity faster than a “Cartridge Not Recognized” error. Finding the exact match for your printer isn’t just about the brand; it’s about navigating model numbers, series designations, and yield types.

At Reprint Ink, we specialize in providing high-quality printing solutions. This guide will walk you through the precise steps to identify and purchase the correct cartridge every time.

1.Ā IdentifyĀ Your Printer Model CorrectlyĀ

The first step is knowing exactly which machine you have. Printer manufacturers often release several versions of the same series (e.g., the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 vs. the 9015).

  • Check the Front Panel:Ā Most printers have theĀ modelĀ name and number printed clearly on the front or near the control panel.Ā
  • The Identification Sticker:Ā Look at the back or bottom of the printer for a silver or white sticker. ThisĀ containsĀ the exactĀ Model NumberĀ andĀ Serial Number.Ā
  • Printer Software:Ā On your computer, go toĀ Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. The name listed there is theĀ driverĀ name, which usually matches your model.Ā

2.Ā LocateĀ the Cartridge NumberĀ

Once you have the printer model, you need the specific cartridge code. This is a short alphanumeric sequence (like HP 63, Canon 245, or Brother TN760).

  • Look Inside the Access Door:Ā Open your printer whileĀ it’sĀ on. The carriage will slide to the center. Look for a label on the printer frame or on the cartridges themselves.Ā
  • Check the OldĀ Cartridge:Ā If you are replacing an existing unit, the number is usually printed in large, bold text on the top or side of the cartridge.Ā
  • The Printer Display:Ā Many modern printers have a “Supplies” or “Ink Levels” menu on the built-in LCD screen that will list the required cartridge numbers.Ā

3. Understand “Standard” vs. “XL” (High Yield)Ā

When searching on Reprint Ink, you will often see two versions of the same cartridge number.

  • Standard Yield:Ā Great for occasional printing.Ā
  • XL / High Yield:Ā These cartridges have the same exterior dimensions butĀ containĀ more ink or toner. They are more cost-effective for high-volume users because they offer a lower cost per page.Ā

4. Choosing Between OEM and RemanufacturedĀ

To get the best value, you should understand your options. We provide both to ensure you have the right fit for your budget:

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer):Ā These are made by the brand that built your printer (e.g., HP, Canon, Epson). They offer guaranteed performance and are ideal for professional-grade gallery photos or legal documents.Ā
  • Remanufactured Cartridges:Ā These are original shells that have been professionally cleaned, refilled with premium ink, and rigorously tested.Ā
  • The Benefit:Ā They are significantly more affordable than OEM and better for the environment by keeping plastic out of landfills.Ā
  • Compatibility:Ā Our remanufactured cartridges are engineered to meet the same electronic specifications as the originals, ensuring they fit and function perfectly.Ā

5. Use the Reprint Ink Search ToolĀ

To avoid any guesswork, the easiest way to find your match is to use our Cartridge Finder.

  1. Enter yourĀ Printer ModelĀ orĀ Cartridge NumberĀ into the search bar.Ā

Summary Checklist for a Perfect Match:Ā

  • Ā Does the cartridge number match the one inside my printer?Ā
  • Ā Is the brand (HP, Canon, Brother, etc.) correct?Ā
  • Ā Did I check if I need a Black, CMYK set, or a specific color?Ā
  • Am I choosing the right yield (Standard or XL) for my needs?Ā
